Best Youtube Studio workshop I had was "Story structure"

After going to multiple workshops at Youtube Studio LA, the best one was "Story Structure" led be coach Lisa Linke

As a math major from UCLA, it blew my mind.  Her two days workshop help me structure my Youtube video content and production.  It significantly improved content logic and engagement.

Pixar and Khan collaborated to make videos about this.  Check it out.

Measure your Youtube sub growth by week, not per day. It should be slowly growing if you're doing everything correct.

Your youtube channel SUBSCRIBER count should be slowly growing per WEEK.  If not, there's something missing.

Do:
  • track [weekly] growth by [subscribers] count.  This is the most important long term index in my view.  It means someone wants to hear more from you in the future.
  • have a consistent content brand.
  • improve one aspect of your channel at a time.  so you don't get overwhelmed and see the impact after.

Don't:
  • obsess [daily subscriber] count, sometimes there are slow days
  • obsess over [view] count, sometimes there are slow days
  • don't give up if you don't see growth.

If you don't see growth on [WEEKLY SUBSCRIBER] count, we need to go back and review the basic steps for optimizing your videos in our coaching session.

Making Youtube content when your business is dry n serious? Like Insurance, Finance, or Real Estate etc? Try marrying it with fun stuff!

I noticed some of my coaching clients in business like insurance, finance, or real estate make youtube content exactly about that.  Dry stuff!

Youtube isn't Linkedin.  Would you want to watch something that dry?

How do you turn something so dry and boring to something fun and engaging?  Marrying with something cute!  The most watched youtubes are cat and babies.  So try adding a dog in your content. Here's an example:

Food + Dog

Biggest mistake corporate YouTube makes: Are you talking "to" your audience or "at" your audience? Did you consult your marketing team?

I noticed some of my clients who have corporate YouTube accounts are talking "at" their audience. No wonder they can't get any engagement besides their employees and family/friends.

What do I mean by that?

I means that you're not talking to an audience. Instead you're telling them why they should listen to you. For example, most of my corporate youtubers first videos are:

  • what was their accomplishments are,
  • what they think they're an expert at.
That's like parents telling their kids, "you should listen to me because you live under my roof".  Do kids respond to that? No, kids response to kids talking to them and not at them.

If you have corporate account, the first thing you should do is talk to your marketing team.  Who are your audience? What do they like? Now you look at their activities then find an entry point to discuss what you can provide to them.

The best way I approach it is I find a friend in that demographic who has asked me a question and I imagine them in front of the camera as I'm talking to them. This is the best way I get engagement.

Hope that helps!
