Biggest mistake corporate YouTube makes: Are you talking "to" your audience or "at" your audience? Did you consult your marketing team?

I noticed some of my clients who have corporate YouTube accounts are talking "at" their audience. No wonder they can't get any engagement besides their employees and family/friends.

What do I mean by that?

I means that you're not talking to an audience. Instead you're telling them why they should listen to you. For example, most of my corporate youtubers first videos are:

  • what was their accomplishments are,
  • what they think they're an expert at.
That's like parents telling their kids, "you should listen to me because you live under my roof".  Do kids respond to that? No, kids response to kids talking to them and not at them.

If you have corporate account, the first thing you should do is talk to your marketing team.  Who are your audience? What do they like? Now you look at their activities then find an entry point to discuss what you can provide to them.

The best way I approach it is I find a friend in that demographic who has asked me a question and I imagine them in front of the camera as I'm talking to them. This is the best way I get engagement.

Hope that helps!
